The Weevils Hit the Road! Look to take Down the Bisons in Searcy

MONTICELLO, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello Boll Weevil Football Team travels to Searcy, Arkansas on Saturday to take on Harding University for the third game of the 2023 season. Kick-off for the game is set for 6:00 p.m.

The Boll Weevils are coming off a dominant 58-21 win over the Bulldogs of Southwestern Oklahoma State University in the home opener last weekend. UAM currently ranks first in the Great American Conference in passing offense and fourth in pass efficiency behind the arm of quarterback Demilon Brown, who's thrown for 616 yards passing and an efficiency rating of 163.1 on the season. Brown also leads the conference in total offense with 395 yards in the season opening contest, followed by 275 yards in week two before Buddy Taylor took over.

The top receiver for the Weevils is Isaiah Cross who ranks second in the GAC in receiving yards per game, at 100.5, and first in receptions per contest, at seven, following his seven receptions and 100 receiving yards last weekend against the Bulldogs.

UAM sits first in the GAC in scoring points per contest, pulling just ahead of Ouachita Baptist University, with 107 total points, and second in total offense, with 494.5 per game.

Defensively, the Weevils are surrendering 22.5 points and 272.5 yards per contest. The leading tackler for the Weevils is Jekerrias Scott, with eleven total tackles and nine solo tackles.

TICKETS THE MATCHUP
The University of Arkansas at Monticello Football team travels to Searcy, Arkansas this Saturday to take on in-state Great American Conference member Harding University for their Family Weekend game.

UAM sits behind in the all-time series, 24-33 against Harding since the teams met for the very first time in Searcy on October 22, 1960. The Weevils are 13-16 against the Bisons on the road, as they look to take down HU for the first time since 2009. The Weevils won that game 44-17 at home to give UAM a three-year win streak against their Searcy opponents.

LAST MEETING
Arkansas-Monticello lost at home in 2022 after a vicious offense-loaded game, falling to the Bisons with a final score of 56-43. The Weevils had 563 total yards on offense and six touchdowns in the game.

Quarterback Demilon Brown tossed for one touchdown before having to leave the game due to injury. Edwin Kleinpeter stepped up and threw for 266 yards, with three passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown of his own.

Caleb Jacobs led the Weevil receiving core, bringing in six receptions for two touchdowns and 147 total yards. LaCedric Smith had 122 receiving yards of his own over four completions and a touchdown, also having the longest reception of the day with a 73-yarder.
