MONTICELLO, ARK. -- Junior Linebacker Ghee Evans picked up GAC Player of the Week honors on Monday for his stellar performance in UAM's 23-9 Homecoming victory over Southern Nazarene University this past weekend.
Evans was named the GAC Defensive Player of the Week alongside Offensive POTW, Andrew Edwards, a QB from Henderson State, and dual Special Teams POTW, Kameron Van Prooyen and Ethan McBee, kickers from Southern Nazarene and Southwestern Oklahoma State. The Defensive POTW honor is the first of his career with the Boll Weevils.
Against the Crimson Storm at home in Monticello, Evans proved to be a wall for UAM, getting 17 total tackles, with 12 solo and five assisted, leading to back-to-back victories for UAM. Evans also stopped the Storm behind the line of scrimmage, grabbing 5.5 tackles for a loss of 13 yards. His 4.0 sacks against the SNU are the most by a Boll Weevil in years, and the most single-game sacks since freshman Eugene Robinson's 3.0 against UAM rival Southern Arkansas during the 2010 Battle of the Timberlands.
Evans' strong contributions to the Weevil defense helped UAM keep Southern Nazarene from scoring a touchdown throughout the entirety of the game. SNU's nine points came on three field goals. This is the first time Arkansas-Monticello has held an opponent from scoring a single touchdown since shutting out Arkansas Tech, 34-0, in the 2013 season.

Arkansas-Monticello will travel to Oklahoma Baptist University on Saturday, Oct. 11, to take on the 1-4 Bison. The game is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. CT kickoff.
