HOT SPRINGS, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello men's golf team opened play at the 10th Annual Battle for the Belt on Monday in Hot Springs, Arkansas. The Boll Weevils put together a strong opening day through 36 holes, finishing the first two rounds in third place heading into Tuesday's final round.

The Weevils posted a combined score of 590 (+14) through the opening two rounds. Northwestern Oklahoma State finished day one atop the leaderboard at 4-under par. The top five spots on the team leaderboard were all occupied by Great American Conference programs, with Henderson State in second, Arkansas-Monticello in third, Henderson State (B) in fourth, and Southern Nazarene rounding out the top five. 

Landry Rogers led the Boll Weevils on day one, sitting in 2nd place at 4-under par (140). Rogers posted a first-round score of 74 (+2), before firing a second-round score of 66 (-6).
 

Carson Slaughter shot a first-round score of 77 (+5), before posting a second-round score of 73 (+1), to finish day one tied for 19th place at 6-over par (150).
 

Rhett Clanton finished day one tied for 24th place at 8-over par (152), after firing a first-round score of 79 (+7) and a second-round score of 73 (+1).
 

Holtz Helms finished tied for 35th place at 11-over par (155), after posting a first-round score of 77 (+5) and a second-round score of 78 (+6).
 

Connor Denson closed out the Boll Weevils' team lineup tied for 43rd place at 13-over par (157). Denson posted a first-round score of 86 (+14), before bouncing back with a second-round score of 71 (-1).
 

Competing as an individual, Luke Riney finished day one tied for 55th place with a two-round score of 167. Riney carded an 84 in the opening round before posting an 83 in round two.

The Weevils will play the final round of the tournament, tomorrow Tuesday, September 29.
