Gilstrap enters his first season as UAM's defensive backs coach, after serving as a Graduate Assistant for the Middle Tennessee State University football program. The former MTSU two-sport student-athlete (Football, Track) began his coaching career at Blackman High School as the corner-backs coach, where he eventually transitioned to the collegiate level at Middle Tennessee State.
During his time at MTSU as a graduate assistant, Kenneth's responsibilities included, but were not limited to the recruitment of defensive junior college players, daily practice preparation, charting and assisting with game day coverage adjustments, and helping to develop and teach linebackers and defensive backs within the program.
Kenneth earned various honors and awards throughout his athletic career at MTSU where he was a four-year letterman at defensive back, which included being named to the Sun Belt All-Conference Team as a freshman, a Dr. James E. Walker Scholar Athlete participant, a National Football Foundation Scholar Athlete, along with participating in both Baltimore Ravens and Calgary Stampeders professional camps.
Gilstrap completed his bachelor's degree from Middle Tennessee State University in liberal studies with an emphasis in physical education, health, and coaching. Kenneth most recently earned his master's degree from MTSU in administration and supervision, with a specialization in higher education.
