Steve Wright

Steve Wright enters his sixth season with the Boll Weevil football in 2025. In 2023, Steve was promoted to the Assistant Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator for the program.

Steve arrived at UAM in the spring of 2019 after spending two seasons at Missouri Western State University as a Graduate Assistant, where he coached the cornerbacks.

While coaching for the Griffons, he helped develop two-time All-Conference cornerback and current Canadian Football League cornerback Brandin Dandridge. Dandridge led the MIAA in interceptions his last 2 seasons with nine, and led the conference in passes defended in 2018.

Before his time at Missouri Western State, he began his coaching career at West Texas A&M University as a Student Assistant with the defensive backs. With the Buffalos, Wright helped recruit student-athletes, monitored their academic performance, broke down game film, and put together scouting reports.

Prior to coaching, he started 21 games at the cornerback position for the Valley City State University Vikings, helping them secure an outright Conference Championship.

Wright earned his Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics from Valley City State University in 2014 and a Master's Degree in Sports and Recreation Management from Missouri Western State in 2019.

He resides in Monticello with his wife, Amanda, and their two kids, Carter and Libby.
