John Harvey joined the University of Arkansas at Monticello athletics department in September of 2010 as the head baseball coach.
In his first season at UAM (2011), Harvey took over a struggling program that had lost 143 games and won just 35 in the four previous seasons. In the 13 seasons since, Harvey's Weevils are 376-281, including over the last 10 seasons with four NCAA regional trips and four consecutive Great American Conference Championships.
Under Harvey's leadership, the Weevils have produced six All-America honorees, 18 All-Region selections, and 74 All-GAC selections from the 2012-2025 seasons. The All-Americans include Corey Wood (2016), Braden Chambers (2016), Andres Rios (2018), Mason Philley (2023), Camden Tanner (2024), and Chaz Poppy (2025).
Harvey is the 11th head baseball coach in school history and recorded his 500th career victory on February 20, 2024, in a 15-0 triumph over Harding University. Throughout his 20 years as a head coach, Harvey heads into the 2025 season with an overall record of 530-429.
On April 12, 2025, during the final home series of the season, Harvey saw his 400th program win with the Boll Weevils. The win came on a 15-3 victory over the Savage Storm of Southeastern Oklahoma State University.
Prior to his move to Monticello, Harvey spent six years as head coach of GAC in-state rival Henderson State University from 2005-2010.
Throughout his six years in Arkadelphia, Harvey led the Reddies to a 154-148 record. He ranks third all-time at HSU in wins. He led the Reddies to three 30-win seasons, a then-school-record 34 wins in 2009, and recorded a combined total of 20 all-conference honorees.
The Lufkin, Texas native began his coaching career as an assistant at Itawamba Community College for the 2002 season. He then served as an assistant coach at Henderson State in 2003 and 2004 before being promoted to head coach.
During his playing days, Harvey lettered four years at Lyon College in Batesville, Arkansas, where he graduated in 2001 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. In 2004, he earned a master’s degree in sports administration from Henderson State University.
Harvey and his wife Jaime have two sons, Brooks and Brock.
