MONTICELLO – The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team was swept 3-0 by Harding at home on Thursday by final game scores of 29-31, 16-25 and 21-25.
With the loss, UAM drops to 2-25 overall and 0-10 in the Gulf South Conference, while Harding remains in a tie for second place in the GSC-West with an overall record of 15-10 and an 8-2 mark in the league.
The Cotton Blossoms pushed out to a 7-3 lead early in the first set to help force the opening stanza into extra points.
Including a kill by Harding’s Amber Schinzing to tie the set at 16, the Lady Bisons posted a 5-2 scoring rally to go up 20-18. The Cotton Blossoms never managed to regain the lead, although coming to within one point on three different occasions.
After the first set, Harding was outhitting UAM .258 to .143.
UAM’s percentage plummeted in the second set with 10 errors and only eight kills on 42 attempts for a set percentage of -.048. Harding’s production decreased as well, but the team remained in the positive with 13 kills and only seven errors.
Despite its worst set of the match in terms of percentage, Harding was able to pull of the sweep with 15 kills and nine errors on 59 attempts in the final set. The scores went back-and-forth until the 20-all mark, when Harding posted 5-1 scoring run to close out the frame, capped a kill from Samantha Anderson and an attack error by UAM sophomore MacKenzie Hubbard.
Individually for UAM, true freshman Bailie Jedlicka led the team with 10 kills and five errors on 25 attempts for a final .200 percentage. The League City, Texas native also added four digs and two total blocks to her final totals.
Hubbard and senior Monica Perkins-Miller each had seven kills in the loss. Senior Stephanie Hatten paced the UAM defense with 21 digs, while senior Vikki Crisco aided the offense with 34 assists.
Harding’s Mollie Arnold had a match-high 15 kills. Bailie Graham and Anderson added 13 and 10 kills, respectively.
The Cotton Blossoms wrap up the non-conference portion of the 2010 schedule this Saturday, October 30 with a 45-minute trip North to face the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Lady Lions. First serve is set for 1 p.m. The Cotton Blossoms swept UAPB in Monticello on October 16.
