BLOSSOMS RALLY FALLS SHORT AGAINST OUACHITA

MONTICELLO – The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team lost to Ouachita Baptist 3-2 on Tuesday night at home despite a dominant fourth-set win.
 
The loss continues UAM’s season-opening winless streak and gives the team a 0-12 overall record and a 0-2 mark in GSC matches. Ouachita improves to 12-2 overall and 1-2 in the GSC.
 
Final game scores were 23-25, 25-18, 21-25, 25-13 and 10-15.
 
After being forced into a must win situation down two sets to one, the Cotton Blossoms posted a .448 team hitting percentage in the fourth set with 16 points coming off kills.
 
However, in the fifth set, UAM hit -.077 with only six kills and eight errors.
 
Senior Dayna Moyer led all players in the match with a career-high 19 kills on 43 attempts with seven errors for a final.279 hitting percentage. The El Cajon, Calif. native also tallied a match-high five blocks, including three block solos.
 
UAM had three other players reach the double-figure mark in kills. Freshman Bailie Jedlicka had 13 while senior Monica Perkins-Miller and junior Christina Jacinto totaled 10 each.
 
Senior Vikki Crisco aided the UAM offensive attack with 46 assists, while senior teammate Stephanie Hatten paced the UAM defense with a career-high 32 digs.
 
The Lady Tigers were led by Ryleigh Lay’s 14 kills. Meagan Askew added 10.
 
The Cotton Blossoms stay in Monticello for its next match this Thursday, September 30 against Southern Arkansas. First serve is set for 7 p.m. inside Steelman Fieldhouse.
