COMMERCE, Texas – The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team concluded play in the Lion Volleyball Classic on Saturday with a pair of losses, starting with a 3-1 setback to Tarleton State followed later by a 3-2 loss to host Texas A&M-Commerce.
In the 3-1 loss to Tarleton State (3-0), the Cotton Blossoms (0-4) had 41 kills on 148 attempts with 29 errors for a final .081 hitting percentage. Final game scores were 25-22, 20-25, 19-25 and 22-25.
Senior Monica Perkins-Miller led all players in the match with 15 kills on 45 attempts with seven errors for a final .178 percentage. Freshman Mollie Cagle had 10 kills and three blocks.
Defensively, UAM had four players reach double-figures in digs. Senior Stephanie Hatten and junior Christina Jacinto tied for the team lead with 14 each, followed by senior Vikki Crisco and sophomore MacKenzie Hubbard with 12 each.
Tarleton State was led by Rachel Wolf with 12 kills and Shea McBrearty with 15 digs.
In the 3-2 loss to host Texas A&M-Commerce (3-1), the Cotton Blossoms doomed themselves with 42 errors for a .029 hitting percentage. Final game scores were 25-22, 25-23, 15-25, 16-25 and 4-15.
Hubbard led UAM with 12 kills, followed by junior Melissa Reed with 10, Perkins-Miller with nine and freshman Bailie Jedicka with eight.
Defensively, Hatten racked up a match-high 21 digs, while teammates Crisco and Jacinto each added 13.
The Lions were led by a match-high 16 kills from Rachel Robertson.
The Cotton Blossoms hit the road again next weekend to participate in the Missouri S&T Invitational, starting Friday, September 10 against the University of Mary at noon.
