MONTICELLO, Ark. – The UAM volleyball team got a big 3-0 win over GAC-rival Southwestern Oklahoma tonight at Steelman Field House.
The Blossoms controlled all three sets against the Bulldogs. The Blossoms opened up a 3-0 lead off the serves from Molly Smestad. UAM remained two to three points ahead for much of the set, allowing just two score ties at 15 and 16, but they closed out strong to take set one 25-22.
The next two sets went more quickly, with UAM winning 25-16 and 25-15. The team played well in all aspects of the game. “We were able to put together a solid effort from everyone tonight, said Coach Casey Shingler, this was a good team win.”
Amy Kleypas led the attack with 16 kills to lead all players in the match. Amy Bazemore posted 30 assists in the game. Three different Blossoms finished with double-digit digs. Allison Beardsley and Christina Jacinto each had 14 while Kleypas added 12 to the team total of 49.
The Blossoms posted one of their best hitting percentages of the season at .204 for the game. The Bulldogs hit .041 for their side.
The Blossoms will have three tough games next week against top GAC opponents. They will travel first to Searcy on Tuesday night to take on the Bison at 7:00 p.m.
