MONTICELLO, Ark. – The UAM volleyball team finished their home schedule in style tonight, defeating the Henderson State Lady Reddies 3-0 on Senior Night.
The Blossoms (7-21, 4-11 GAC) won their third-straight match overall and their second in conference with the win tonight. Henderson State (4-27, 0-15 GAC) held their own in the first set, taking the Blossoms down to the wire, 26-24. Amanda Dills got two set-ending kills with the score tied at 24 to get the match started with a win for UAM.
The second and third sets were not close, with UAM winning 25-19 and 25-17. Amy Kleypas led the attack with 11 kills on the night. Amy Bazemore had 33 assists and two service aces, and Allison Beardsley paced the defense with 13 digs.
UAM hit a combined .226 on the night, thanks in large part to set three. The Blossoms hit .400 to close out the final set of the night. HSU shot a combined .103 for their effort.
The win was the final in front of a home crowd for two seniors, Melissa Reed and Christina Jacinto. Reed finished the night with three kills, one dig and one assisted block; while Jacinto posted two assists, two aces, and six digs.
The Blossoms will return to the road on Thursday as they travel up to Arkadelphia for the final regular season match of the year against Ouachita Baptist.
The conference tournament begins next Friday, November 11. The Blossoms have the eighth seed in the tournament and will face host Arkansas Tech in round one. The Blossoms are winless against the Golden Suns so far this season in two meetings.
