RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The UAM volleyball team was eliminated from the GAC Tournament this evening by host and number one seed Arkansas Tech in three sets.
The Golden Suns took the first two sets handily, 25-14 and 25-15. The Blossoms made the third set much closer. After falling behind 3-0, three errors on Tech evened the score for the first of five times in the set.
Each time ATU started to pull away, the Blossoms fought back all the way down to the wire, but they stalled at 22 allowing the home-standing Suns to advance, 25-22.
Amy Kleypas paced the UAM attack with 12 kills on the day, she also finished with nine defensive digs, one short of the double-double. Allison Beardsley led the defensive effort with 13 digs while Amy Bazemore had 20 assists and nine digs as well.
The Blossoms’ hitting percentage improved greatly in the final set to .136 up from negative figures in the first two sets of the match. Arkansas Tech finished with a total percentage of .196 thanks to a .321 in the second set pulling up their overall average.
The teams were almost even in both blocks and digs, with ATU holding the advantage on digs, 49-55, and UAM getting one more block, 5-4. UAM finished with four service aces while Tech posted eight.
The loss ends the Blossoms’ season at 7-23. Arkansas Tech will face the winner of the Ouachita Baptist / East Central game.
