BLOSSOMS PLATE FOUR IN THIRD FOR 5-0 WIN OVER S&T

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The 11th-ranked University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team used a big third inning to take a 5-0 win over Missouri S&T on neutral ground Thursday at Christian Brothers University’s Bland Field.

After being held to only one hit in the first two innings, the Cotton Blossoms (17-1) used a two-RBI double by sophomore Faith Lund and two runs off a throwing error by the S&T third baseman to plate four runs in the bottom of the third.

UAM added their final run in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single by junior Kayla Jackson to score junior Laura Tucker, who reached base on a walk earlier in the inning.

Jackson (10-0) also picked up the win for UAM, tossing her 10th complete game and third shutout of the season. It is the 25th shutout of her career. She allowed only three hits, struck out 10 and gave up only one walk.

Jackson kept the Miners (1-11) out of scoring position for the first five innings. S&T reached scoring position twice in the sixth inning, including Jennifer Sardigal’s double to right center to lead off the frame.

The Cotton Blossoms stay in Memphis to open Gulf South Conference play against Christian Brothers this Saturday and Sunday with double-headers each day starting at 1 p.m.
