UAM SOFTBALL COMPLETES 4-GAME SWEEP OVER CBU

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The 11th-ranked University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team completed a four-game sweep over Christian Brothers with 9-0 and 11-4 wins on Sunday at Bland Field.

In the first game, junior pitcher Kayla Jackson (12-0) had a perfect game through the first four innings before the Lady Bucs (6-11, 0-4 Gulf South Conference) posted their only two hits of the game in consecutive at bats in the bottom of the fifth. The Hallsville, Texas native struck out three and did not allow a walk or a run for her fourth shutout of the season and 26th of her career.

Jackson also led the Cotton Blossoms (21-1, 4-0 GSC) offensively with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate, including a two-run homerun in the top of the fifth, her team-high sixth round-tripper of the season. Junior Laura Tucker also had a multi-hit game with a pair of infield singles.

In the second game, Jackson continued her impressive offensive day with a 2-for-4 performance with three RBI, all three coming on a bases-clearing triple in the top of the second inning as a part of UAM’s five-run inning.

UAM posted another five-run inning in the top of the fourth, highlighted by a two-RBI single by senior Sarah Hayslip and a two-RBI double by freshman Beth Johnson.

Johnson was responsible for UAM’s final run with an RBI single in the top of the sixth.

Sophomore Faith Lund led the team in hits in the second game with a 3-for-5 performance, including a pair of doubles.

Junior Amanda Nordberg (4-1) picked up the win after allowing three runs (two earned) off six hits with three strikeouts and four walks in the first 4.1 innings. Junior Randa Perry provided 2.2 productive innings of relief, allowing one run off two hits with three strikeouts and no walks.

UAM is back in action next weekend on the road against Southern Arkansas for a four-game GSC series, starting with a double-header on Saturday, March 19 at 1 p.m.
