JACKSON TOSSES NO-HITTER TO BEAT WEST FLORIDA

DECATUR, Ala. – Junior pitcher Kayla Jackson tossed her first no-hitter of the season and fifth of her career in a 2-0 win over West Florida on the final day of the Gulf South Conference Crossover.

The shutout win also becomes Jackson’s seventh time to hold her opponent to zero runs this season and 29th of her career. She improves to 16-5 this year, while UAM improves to 29-9 overall and 9-8 in the GSC. West Florida drops to 19-15 overall and 8-10 in the GSC.

UAM first reached the scoreboard in the top of the second inning on a triple by senior Sarah Hayslip, who then scored on a throwing error by the UWF third baseman.

The Cotton Blossoms capitalized on another UWF error in the fourth to score their final run. Junior Jennifer Hickman started the inning with a single to center field then went all the way around the bases on a Faith Lund single, which was mishandled by the UWF right-fielder.

UAM is set to play its final game of the crossover today (4/10) at noon against North Alabama.
