BLOSSOMS SPLIT ON DAY 3 OF CROSSOVER

DECATUR, Ala. – The 20th-ranked University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team split a pair of games on the third day of the Gulf South Conference Crossover with a 2-1 loss to 4th-ranked Valdosta State followed by an 8-0 run-rule victory over Lambuth.

In the loss to Valdosta State (23-5, 10-4 GSC), UAM (28-9, 8-8 GSC) reverted to a re-occurring problem for the year by leaving 10 runner on base for the low scoring output.

The Blazers scored both of their runs in the top of the third, while UAM scored its lone run in the bottom of the fourth inning in the form of freshman Summer Huddleston, who reached on an error by the VSU first baseman and scored on an error by the VSU centerfielder.

UAM had seven hits in the loss, one less than VSU produced. Junior Randa Perry was the only Cotton Blossom with a multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 in the loss.

Junior Kayla Jackson (15-5) took the loss for UAM in complete-game style, allowing both runs off eight hits with five strikeouts and no walks. VSU’s Holly Satterfield (14-2) earned the win.

In the win over Lambuth, Perry (5-0) tossed a two-hit shutout in UAM’s third run-rule victory over Lambuth this season. Also in the win, senior Sarah Hayslip hit a three-run homerun, her seventh round-tripper of the year. Complete statistics from the Lambuth game will be posted at uamsports.com when they become available.

UAM wraps up play in the crossover on Sunday (4/10) against West Florida at 10 a.m. and against North Alabama at noon.
