MONTICELLO, Ark. – The Cotton Blossoms fell to the Belhaven Blazers tonight in their home opener 3-0.
The Blossoms (2-5) were close in every game of the three-game set, but could not get to 25 before the Blazers (8-1). They fell in game one 22-25. The score was tied at 22 all in the game, but two kills and a missed set later, Belhaven had taken game one.
Game two was equally close. Neither team could get more than two points apart until the Blossoms got stuck in the low teens for several rallies. Belhaven stretched their lead out to 21-14, but UAM managed to claw back to within two at 21-23 with some nice offensive work from Amanda Dills and Bailie Jedlicka. Once again Belhaven took the final two points to take the commanding 2-0 lead.
UAM jumped out 7-3 to open the third game, but Belhaven continued to chip away. The game was tied at 14 all before the Blazers began to pull away to close out the match. BU finished on an 11-4 run to finish the night with the 3-0 sweep.
The Cotton Blossoms will return to the road for two GAC games in Oklahoma on Friday and Saturday evening. They will take on Southeastern Oklahoma State on Friday in Durant before heading over to Weatherford on Saturday for a matchup with Southwestern Oklahoma State. Both matches begin at 7:00 P.M.
