PINE BLUFF, Ark. – The UAM Volleyball team traveled up to Pine Bluff tonight to take on the Lions and took the 3-2 victory from their hosts for their second win of the season.
Three of the five games were decided by three or fewer points as the Blossoms had to battle for every point. They took game one 25-23 before slipping up in game two 15-25. UAM took game three 25-22, but could not hold on in game four, 22-25. Coach Shingler’s team rallied in the fifth and final game to win decisively, 15-7, to take the match.
Amy Kleypas and Mollie Cagle continue to lead the way offensively for the Blossoms. Kleypas had 12 kills over the five game set and Cagle was right behind her at ten. Christina Jacinto came up big on defense with 11 successful digs while Christina Rini had the most blocks at the net with two solo and one assisted block.
The Blossoms had a team hitting percentage of just .169 but the Lions could only put up a .155 for their end. Only Mariah Roby finished with double-digit kills at ten. The Blossoms had a solid serving game with 10 team aces throughout the match. Amy Bazemore and Amy Kleypas each had three to lead the team on the night, Mollie Cagle added two.
UAM returns to action next Tuesday night for their home opener against Belhaven University. The game is the first White Out of the season, and the first 100 students through the doors will receive free t-shirt compliments of Student Affairs and the Athletic Department. The match is scheduled to begin at 6:00 P.M.
