WEEVILS MOVE TO 2-0 IN CONFERENCE PLAY

Box Score
MONTICELLO, Ark. – The UAM Boll Weevils remained perfect in GAC-play this evening, defeating the visiting Southeastern Oklahoma Savage Storm 90-78.

The Weevils (12-2, 2-0 GAC) streaked their way to victory in this one. They remained ahead most of the game, but could never fully put the game away until late in the second half. The game opened on an 8-0 Weevil run as threes rained in early, six of the game’s 18 three pointers fell within in the first six minutes of play.

The Storm tied the game ten times, but only held two leads across both halves, neither bigger than two points nor never longer than a possession. The break-neck pace set by both teams sustained itself throughout the first half, with the Weevils still holding on to the lead, 44-41 heading into halftime.

The second half continued in a similar vein, with the Storm answering every Weevil run with one of their won, tying the game twice more by the halfway point. A.J. Calhoun hit the back end of a pair of free throws with 11:01 remaining to give the Weevils the lead that would see them to the end. It sparked a 9-1 run capped four minutes later by a Kori Forge layup to put UAM up eight, SOSU got no closer than five again.

Kori Forge set his career high in Weevil green with 31 points on the night. The junior from Atlanta shot 61-percent from the floor, going 11-for-18, including 5-of-9 from three-point range and added a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line.

Three other Weevils finished in double figures with Ricardo Hall adding 18, Sergio Crowe with 17, and Lonnie Cottrell with 10. Steven Kohli and Zac Downing led the Storm with 18 points each.

As a team, the Weevils shot 52 percent (32-of-62) from the floor, 42 percent (8-of-19) from three, and 75 percent (18-of24) from the line. SOSU went 33-of-62 (53-percent) from the floor, 10-of-20 from three and just 2-of-11 (18.2 percent) from the foul line.

The Weevils will have a week to prepare for their first of two trips to Arkadelphia as they take on the Henderson State Reddies at 4:00 p.m. next Saturday at the Duke Wells Center.
