POSTGAME INTERVIEW WITH HEAD COACH PETER CRUZ
MONTICELLO – The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team defeated Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Wednesday at home in four sets to give the team its second victory over the Lady Lions this season.
Final game scores were 25-13, 25-23, 19-25 and 25-20. With the win, UAM improves to 9-16 overall this season, while the Lady Lions drop to 5-13.
The Cotton Blossoms jumped out to early leads in the first and fourth sets, evident in the final numbers. UAM hit .226 in the first set and .375 in the final set, while posting a .133 percentage in the second set and .086 in the third set loss.
Overall, UAM collected 45 kills on 143 attempts with 17 errors for a .196 percentage. The Lady Lions had 48 kills on 152 attempts with 35 errors for a .086 percentage.
Senior Amy Kleypas led the way for UAM with a double-double of 12 kills and 11 digs. The Crawford, Texas native only had four errors on 32 swings for a .250 percentage. It was her 12
th double-double performance of the season.
Sophomore Christina Rini followed closely with eight kills and added four block solos to her totals. Junior Amy Bazemore contributed to the UAM offensive attack with 21 assists.
The Lady Lions were led by Alicia Campbell’s match-high 14 kills. Audrey Sherles and Ashlie Jones also reached double-digits for the Lions offensively with 13 and 11 kills, respectively.
The Cotton Blossoms continue its non-conference stretch of matches this weekend with a trip to New Orleans to participate in the Loyola Wolfpack Invitational. UAM opens play in the event on Friday, October 19 against host Loyola at 8 p.m. UAM plays Southern University and Mobile on Saturday.
