MONTICELLO – The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team suffered a three-set loss to Ouachita Baptist on Tuesday as a part of UAM’s “Dig Pink” night, an fund raising effort for breast cancer awareness and research.
Final game scores were 25-22, 25-21 and 25-15. With the loss, UAM drops to 10-21 overall and 4-8 in the Great American Conference, while OBU improves to 8-15 overall and 5-7 in the league.
As a team, UAM collected 29 kills on 105 attempts with 18 errors for a .105 percentage. The Lady Tigers had 42 kills on 105 swings with 16 errors for a .248 percentage.
The Cotton Blossoms led in each of the first two sets, leading by as much as seven points in the first set and six points in the second set, but OBU rallied both times to force UAM into a must-win situation in the third set. The Cotton Blossoms posted their worst percentage in the final set, only managing seven kills on 28 swings with six errors for a .036 clip.
Individually, junior Victoria Bozzo led all players with 14 kills on 37 swings with only two errors for a .324 percentage. Senior Amy Kleypas followed with eight kills. Senior Allison Beardsley paced the UAM defense with nine digs, while junior Haley Goldwater contributed to the UAM offensive attack with 15 assists.
Abby Pickett led the Lady Tigers with 10 kills on 17 swings with only one errors for a .529 percentage.
The Cotton Blossoms step out of GAC action this weekend with a trip to Jackson, Tenn. to face Union University this Friday, November 2. First serve is set for 6 p.m. UAM defeated Union earlier this season at home with a 3-1 decision on September 14.
