JACKSON, Tenn. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team posted its best hitting percentage of the season in a 3-2 road victory over Union University on Friday in the final non-conference match of the 2012 season.
Final game scores were 20-25, 25-12, 24-26, 25-21 and 19-17. With the win, UAM improves to 11-21 overall this season, while Union drops to 4-23. The win gives UAM a season sweep over Union after defeating the Lady Bulldogs 3-1 earlier this season in Monticello.
As a team, UAM posted 63 kills on 143 swings with 20 errors for its season-best .301 percentage. Union had 62 kills on156 attempts with 21 errors for a .263 percentage.
Individually, senior Amy Kleypas led all players with 21 kills on 44 swings with seven errors for a .318 percentage. The Conroe, Texas native added 12 digs for her 15th double-double of the season. Junior Holly Schweigert also reached double-digits offensively for UAM with 11 kills.
Senior Allison Beardsley paced the UAM defense with 22 digs, while juniors Amy Bazemore and Haley Goldwater contributed to the UAM offensive attack with 27 assists each.
Savannah Hughes led Union with 16 kills on 49 attempts with six errors for a .204 percentage.
The Cotton Blossoms return to Great American Conference action on Tuesday, November 6 at home against Southern Arkansas. First serve is set for 7 p.m. inside Steelman Fieldhouse. A special senior day ceremony will be held prior to the match to honor three UAM student-athletes participating in their final home contest as a Cotton Blossom.
