REDDIES BEST WEEVILS ON BUZZER-BEATER, 88-85

Box Score MONTICELLO, Ark. – The UAM men’s basketball team lost a heart-breaker, 88-85, to the Henderson State Reddies tonight at Steelman Field House.

The Weevils (15-8, 5-6 GAC) had an 82-72 lead with 2:53 remaining, but the Reddies finished the game on a 16-3 run, including a last-second three pointer from half court to steal the conference win. It looked like UAM would manage to hold on as they in-bounded the ball with 12 seconds remaining and the score tied at 85.

At worst, the Weevils were facing overtime, but Kori Forge got trapped in the corner by the UAM bench and turned the ball over to Jonathan Fitzgerald with five seconds on the clock. He ran the ball out of traffic as the seconds ticked away and managed to get just over halfcourt as his final heave was right on track to bury the game-winning three with less than a second on the clock.

UAM had to battle back from a six-point halftime deficit as the second half began. Ricardo Hall gave the Weevils a 47-46 lead just under five minutes into the half. They held that lead, usually around two to three possessions, until the 2:53 mark when the proverbial wheels came off. The Weevils did not score a field goal in the last 1:25 of the game as the Reddies closed the gap and took the win.

Sergio Crowe tied HSU’s Denzel Lyles for the game-high 30 points. L.A. Farmer added 21 points, 19 of them in the second half after a sluggish start. Ricardo Hall finished with a double-double at 15 points and 11 rebounds. Kori Forge rounded out those in double figures with 13 points.

UAM shot 47-percent from the floor, 32-for-68, including 13-of-30 from three (43-percent). They shot 8-of-13 from the foul line. Henderson shot 34-of-63 from the field, 54-percent, including 11-of-17 from three (64-percent). They finished 9-of-16 from the line for 56-percent.

The Weevils will look to snap their skid on the road next Thursday as they travel to Weatherford to take on Southwestern Oklahoma State for a 4:00 p.m. tip off.
