BENTONVILLE, Ark. – The UAM softball team lost their final two games in the Five-State Classic in Bentonville.
UAM (8-6) fell to Missouri Western State in the first game of the day 1-3. Jennifer Hickman provided the Blossom’s run with a solo homerun in the top of the seventh. Maggie Sands and Presley Long had two hits each to lead the team. Kayla Jackson got the loss in six innings of work. She gave up three runs on seven hits with one walk and three strikeouts.
Northwest Missouri won the final game 11-3. Katie Slaughter took the loss after a rough start. The freshman gave up five hits, including a three-run homerun before Haleigh Winnon came in to finish the inning. Winnon got out of the first, but gave up eight hits and six runs in her two-and-two-thirds innings. Kayla Jackson came in in the top of the fifth and ended the game with a hitless inning.
Sands added two more hits in game two, Beth Johnson and Brittany Eitel also had two hits for the game, Taylor Russell had the other Blossom hit.
The Blossoms will return to action this Saturday as they travel to Joplin, Missouri to take part in the Missouri Southern State Teri Mathis-Zenner Memorial Tournament. They will take on the University of Central Missouri at 10 a.m. followed by Pittsburg State at 4 p.m.
