SOFTBALL GETS TWO MORE AT SAU

Game 3 | Game 4

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The UAM softball team took both games of today’s doubleheader at Southern Arkansas, 5-2 and 4-3.

The Blossoms (16-10, 4-2 GAC) never trailed in either game today, as they took the series from the Lady Riders (11-21, 4-12 GAC) 3-1. They got on the board in the third inning of game one with two runs off three hits. Beth Johnson and Sara Matthews both singled to get in scoring position for Kayla Jackson. Jackson got a deep fly to center that scored Johnson from third and Matthews came in a batter later thanks to a Taylor Russell double to center.

Southern Arkansas managed to tie the score in the bottom of the fourth, but UAM retook the advantage with a three-run sixth inning.  There were only three UAM hits in the frame. Brittany Eitel, Katie Bowman, and Maggie Sands all singled, but only Sands got an RBI. The other runs scored off a Lady Mulerider error and a passed ball.

The Blossoms never trailed in the second game, with runs in the first, second and two in the top of the seventh off 11 hits. They held off a last-chance surge from the home team in the bottom of the seventh for the series-deciding win.

Kayla Jackson had three of the four RBI in game two with a sac fly in the first, and a two-run homer in the seventh to pace the Blossoms. Maggie Sands drove in the other run in the second with a single through the right side, scoring Eitel.
Jackson picked up her 11th win of the season in game one, going the complete seven innings allowing two runs on four hits with no walks and three strikeouts. Katie Slaughter got her fifth win in game two, going 6.1 innings and giving up three runs on six hits with no walks and three strikeouts.

UAM will return to action this Thursday as they host Delta State for a non-conference doubleheader. The Blossoms and the Lady Statesmen will get things underway at 1 p.m. at Blossom Field.
