BLOSSOMS WIN TWO OVER HENDERSON STATE

Game 1 | Game 2

MONTICELLO, Ark. – The UAM softball team got a pair of run-rule wins over Henderson State today, 9-0 and 16-8, in GAC action.

The Blossoms (18-10, 6-2 GAC) racked up 22 hits in the two games, with only three scoreless innings across the 11 played. Kayla Jackson got the win in both games after pitching the one-hit complete-game shutout in game one.

UAM controlled game one from the start, scoring early and often, including a four-run third and fourth inning to cement the 9-0 victory over HSU (15-20, 7-11 GAC). Game two took a little more work, as the Lady Reddies jumped out to an early 1-0 lead before UAM regained the lead for good in the second with a three-run offering. The game remained close until the bottom of the fourth inning. UAM exploded for six runs in the frame to put the game firmly out of reach.

There were three homeruns on the day. Brittany Eitel got a two-run shot in the third inning of game one over the left field fence to score half of a four-run inning in the first win. Taylor Russell got the second homer of the day for UAM in the fourth inning of game two with a solo shot that cleared the left field advertising, and Kayla Jackson got the final blast of the day in the sixth inning of game two with a two-run blast deep over the left field fence.

Jackson paced the Blossom offense as well as the pitching effort. She finished the day with six RBI and five hits in seven appearances. She allowed just one hit in five innings of work in game one with one walk and seven strikeouts. She closed out game two after Katie Slaughter’s 1.1 innings to allow five runs on 10 hits with no walks and four strikeouts.

The two teams will face off again tomorrow afternoon for the series concluding doubleheader. First pitch is again slated for 1 p.m.
