Game 3 | Game 4
MONTICELLO, Ark. – The Cotton Blossoms completed the series sweep of Henderson State today, winning 4-1 and 4-2 in the doubleheader.
UAM (20-10, 8-2 GAC) got four runs in the bottom of the first inning and Kayla Jackson held the Lady Reddies (15-22, 7-13 GAC) to one run despite ten hits. Taylor Russell and Jennifer Hickman each drove in one run each and Brittany Eitel drove in two in the inning with singles to the outfield.
Henderson broke up the shutout in the fifth on a three-hit inning. Amber Klug drove in the run with a single to right, but the Lady Reddies were held scoreless the rest of the game.
The scoring in game two was more spread out, but the result was almost identical. UAM got one run in the bottom of the third thanks to a Maggie Sands double to center that scored Beth Johnson from second.
The Blossoms picked up two more in the fourth as Sydney Tipton came in to pinch hit and smashed the ball off the left field advertising to bring in herself and Kayla Jackson.
HSU got two in the top of the sixth, but Katie Slaughter held firm to keep the 3-2 lead going into the bottom half of the inning where Jennifer Hickman drove in Kara House from second to extend the lead back to two, 4-2.
Both UAM pitchers went the distance today, with Jackson picking up the win in game one and Slaughter going the full seven in game two. Kayla gave up one run on ten hits with no walks and four strikeouts while Katie allowed two runs on six hits with no walks and two strikeouts.
The Blossoms will travel to Ouachita Baptist next weekend to take on the Lady Tigers in a four-game series. Game one of Saturday’s doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Arkadelphia.
