ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Cotton Blossoms took two this afternoon on the road at Ouachita Baptist.
It took eight innings to find a winner in game one, but UAM (22-10, 10-2 GAC) got the game-winner in the top of the eighth to break the 2-2 tie. Brittany Eitel got things going for the Blossoms in the fourth inning with a double to left that scored Taylor Russell and Kayla Jackson.
OBU (14-21, 4-11 GAC) got one run back in the home half of the fourth off two of their 11 hits. The Lady Tigers tied the game in the sixth with a leadoff homerun to knot the game at 2-2.
Neither team scored in the seventh, leading to extra innings. The Blossoms had two outs in the inning with Katie Bowman on first, when Summer Huddleston got the winning hit with a double to left that scored Bowman from first. Kayla Jackson got OBU to go 1-2-3 in the bottom half of the inning to seal the win.
The second game was much the same, with only one run scored by either team. Taylor Russell broke the scoreless game in the sixth inning with a leadoff homerun to center. Katie Slaughter held the Lady Tigers to six hits with no runs with three strikeouts.
The two teams will conclude the four-game series tomorrow afternoon with another doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
