Game 1 | Game 2
DURRANT, Okla. – The UAM Softball team saw their 16-game win streak snap this afternoon before returning the favor at Southeastern.
The Blossoms (31-11, 19-3 GAC) trailed early on in game one, 1-0, after the first five innings after Southeastern (31-13, 21-5 GAC) got one run in the bottom of the third off a pair of hits. Kayla Jackson gave UAM the lead in the top of the sixth, however, with a two-run homerun over the left field fence that brought in Maggie Sands from second and herself.
Unfortunately, the Savage Storm got the two runs right back in the home half of the inning on three hits and a Blossom error to take game one 3-2 and snap the Blossoms’ 16-game streak dating back to March 18.
The win was the 16th in a row for Southeastern, but that seems to be the breaking point this season, as the Blossoms came from behind in game two to even the series at a game apiece.
Each team got a run in the first, with Jackson providing the spark for the Blossoms with her second homerun of the day to left, this time a solo shot. Katie Campbell got the Storm on the board with a solo homerun of her own in the bottom of the inning.
SOSU took the lead in the third with Campbell’s second homerun of the game, this time a two-run shot down the left field line to put the Storm up 3-1. But, this time the late innings were kinder to the Blossoms. They got two runs in the sixth to tie the game. Taylor Russell provided the long ball this time, driving in Jackson along the way.
Keeping with the long ball strategy, the Blossoms got the winning run in the top of the seventh thanks to a lead-off homerun from Beth Johnson, again to left. Credit for the win went to Jackson, who pitched four innings of relief after going the full six in the game one loss.
The two teams will finish up the series tomorrow afternoon with another doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 11 a.m.
