Game 3 | Game 4
DURANT, Okla. – The UAM softball team held serve in the GAC, splitting the series-ending doubleheader with Southeastern Oklahoma today and maintaining their hold on first place heading into the final week of the regular season.
The Savage Storm (32-14, 22-6 GAC) took game one, 1-0, on two hits in the seventh inning. Sam Vrska led the inning with a single to right, and after a sacrifice bunt and an RBI single from Courtne St. Clair ended the game at 1-0.
Kayla Jackson took the loss in game one, giving up the one run on four hits with one walk and five strikeouts. The UAM ace got more offensive backup in the second game.
The Blossoms (32-12, 18-4 GAC) got two, two-run, homeruns in the second game to keep the series even at two games apiece.
Sara Matthews drove in Jennifer Hickman and herself with the first homer in the second with a deep shot to left. Then, in the sixth, it was Taylor Russell’s turn. The first baseman sent the ball over the same left field fence and brought in Jackson from first.
Jackson got the start in game two, and put in her second complete game of the day, going seven innings and allowing no runs on just two hits. She had no walks and one strikeout.
The Blossoms will return home this weekend for the final GAC series before the conference tournament, but they will first head over to Delta State on Thursday for a non-conference doubleheader with the Lady Statesmen in Cleveland. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m. at DSU’s University Field.
