AVLA & WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team posted a 3-1 win over Northwestern Oklahoma State on Friday in Alva followed by a 3-1 loss to Southwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday in Weatherford.
With the two-match split, the Cotton Blossoms now sport an overall record of 6-11 and a 2-4 record in Great American Conference matches.
FRIDAY: UAM 3, NWOSU 1
The Cotton Blossoms posted a 3-1 win over GAC provisional member Northwestern Oklahoma State on Friday in Alva, led by senior Amy Kleypas’ 17 kills on 40 attempts with eight errors for a .225 percentage.
Final game scores were 25-17, 22-25, 25-23 and 25-22. The Rangers fell to 0-14 overall and 0-5 in its first season as a provisional member of the GAC.
In addition to Kleypas’ match-high kills total, she also posted 14 digs for her seventh double-double of the season.
Junior Victoria Bozzo also reached double figures offensively with a total of 10 kills on 24 attempts with just two errors for a final .333 percentage.
Senior Allison Beardsley tied NWOSU’s Ana Luiza Calaza for a match-high 20 digs. Lacy Stewart led the NWOSU offensive attack with 13 kills.
As a team, UAM totaled 45 kills on 137 attempts with 27 errors for a .131 percentage, while NWOSU had 39 kills on134 attempts with 25 errors for a .104 percentage.
SATURDAY: SWOSU 3, UAM 1
Despite posting a better hitting percentage and a higher kill totals, the Cotton Blossoms fell in four sets to Southwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday in Weatherford by final game scores of 22-25, 25-22, 23-25 and 19-25. SWOSU improved to 5-11 overall and 3-2 in the GAC with Saturday’s win.
Senior Amy Kleypas posted a career-high 21 kills in the loss on 49 attempts with just five errors for a .327 hitting percentage. She also added 16 digs for her eighth double-double of the season.
As a team, UAM collected 55 kills on 150 attempts with 20 errors for a final .233 hitting percentage. The Bulldogs totaled 50 kills on 152 attempts with 15 errors for a .230 percentage. Joey Collins led SWOSU with 18 kills.
In addition to Kleypas’ kills total, junior Victoria Bozzo reached double-digits in the category for the third consecutive match with a total of 12 kills on 30 attempts with just three errors for a .300 hitting percentage.
Senior Allison Beardsley reached double-digits defensively for the 14
th time this season with a total 23 digs. It was her seventh match reaching the 20-dig mark.
The Cotton Blossoms are back in action next Friday and Saturday, October 5-6 at the Southwest Baptist Regional Crossover Tournament in Bolivar, Mo. UAM opens the event on Friday against Fort Hays State at 11:30 a.m.
