RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Defending Great American Conference champion Arkansas Tech defeated the University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team by a final score of 3-0 on Friday to conclude the first day of the Arkansas Tech/Hampton Inn Classic.
Final game scores were 25-17, 25-16 and 25-19. UAM drops to 0-6 overall, while ATU improves to 5-2.
The Cotton Blossoms posted a .151 hitting percentage in the loss, led by senior Amy Kleypas, who collected nine kills on 28 swings for an individual .250 hitting percentage.
Senior Allison Beardsley collected her fifth double-digit performance in the loss with a team-high 16 digs, while junior Amy Bazemore paced the UAM offense with 15 assists.
Arkansas Tech placed three hitters in double-digits offensively, led by Brittany Ryan’s match-high 12 kills on 19 attempts with only one error for a .579 percentage. As a team, ATU hit .283 and dominated the net with a total of 10 blocks.
Friday’s match against ATU was considered a non-conference contest despite both teams competing in the Great American Conference. UAM and ATU will face off again on Tuesday, September 11 in Monticello for the GAC opener.
UAM is back in action at the Arkansas Tech/Hampton Inn Classic on Saturday with matches against Central Oklahoma (11 a.m.) and Lindenwood (3 p.m.). ATU will provide live stats and live streaming video of both matches through the tournament home page at the following link:
