The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team recorded its first win of the 2012 season with a 3-2 victory over Central Oklahoma on Saturday followed later in the day with a 3-0 loss to Lindenwood on the final day of the Arkansas Tech/Hampton Inn Spikefest.

Final game scores in the win over Central Oklahoma 21-25, 25-20, 16-25, 25-19 and 15-12.

The Cotton Blossoms posted their best hitting numbers of the season after recording 53 kills on 166 attempts with 25 errors for a .169 percentage. Individually, senior Amy Kleypas posted her best numbers of the season with a team-high 17 kills on 48 attempts with only five errors for a .250 percentage.

Senior Allison Beardsley paced the UAM defense with her fifth match of the season with at least 20 digs. Beardsley totaled 22 digs, while Kleypas added 13 digs for her first double-double of the year.

UCO’s Morgan Roy led all players with 21 kills.

Final game scores of the loss to Lindenwood were 25-9, 25-19 and 25-23.

The Cotton Blossoms hit .047 as a team with 22 kills and 17 errors on 106 attempts. Kleypas led UAM offensively with seven kills, while Beardsley posted 13 digs.

Lindenwood placed three players in double-digits offensively, led by Erin Anselman’s 13 kills.

The Cotton Blossoms move to 1-7 overall this season following Saturday’s split. UCO fell to 3-4, while Lindenwood improved to 5-3.

UAM is back in action this Tuesday, September 11 at home for the first Great American Conference contest of the 2012 season against defending conference champion Arkansas Tech. First serve is set for 7 p.m. inside Steelman Fieldhouse.
