MONTICELLO – The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team was defeated by Arkansas Tech in three sets on Tuesday night at home inside Steelman Field House. Final game scores were 25-19, 25-16 and 25-19.
UAM (12-15, 2-9 Great American Conference) hit .117 as a team with 27 kills and 16 errors on 94 attempts, while ATU (18-9, 7-3 GAC) finished at .260 with 38 kills and 12 errors on exactly 100 attempts.
The Blossoms struggled with ATU's serve throughout the match, surrendering 12 service aces, while only totaling three. ATU's Sierra Nighswonger and Emily Todd led the Suns with five and four aces, respectively.
Junior Jessica Cuba led the Blossoms with nine kills and only one error on 21 attempts for a .286 individual percentage. Senior Holly Schweigert chipped in with five kills and freshman Kedra Johnson had four.
Senior Tusalava Kuaea and Cuba paced the defense with 12 and 11 digs, respectively. Johnson aided to the defensive effort with four total blocks.Senior Amy Bazemore racked up 22 assists for her 19th match of the season of reaching at least 20 in that category.
Emily Todd and Katie Huff led the Golden Suns with 10 kills each. Sara Motsinger had nine.
The Blossoms return to the court next Tuesday, November 5 on the road against Ouachita Baptist. First serve is set for 6 p.m. in Arkadelphia.
