UAM FALLS TO HARDING ON SENIOR DAY

MONTICELLO –
The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team concluded the 2013 season with a 3-0 loss to Great American Conferenceregular season champion Harding Thursday inside Steelman Field House on Senior Night.

The Blossoms started with a strong first set, making a 4-0 run early to tie the set at eight-all. UAM (12-19, 2-12 GAC) kept the score to within two pointsbefore Harding responded with a 7-0 run to go up 16-10. The Lady Bisons (24-7, 14-0 GAC) held at least a six-point lead throughout the remainder of the set until UAM used a 4-0 run at the end to cut the lead to four at 24-20.

The Lady Bisons hit .310 in the second set in comparison to UAM's .059 for the most lop-sided set win of the match. UAM improved to .200 hitting in the final set, but the Lady Bisons captured the sweep by totaling 15 kills and only three errors in the frame.

For the match, UAM hit .126 with 25 kills and 14 errors on 87 attempts. Harding finished at .323 with 40 kills and 10 errors on 93 attempts.

Senior Tori Bozzo led the Blossoms with eight kills and only one error on 25 attempts for a .280 individual percentage. Senior Holly Schweigert and junior Kayla Macadlo each added five kills in the loss. Senior Tusalava Kuaea paced the UAM defense with 12 digs.

In addition to Bozzo, Schweigert and Kuaea, the other seniors playing in their final home match were Amy Bazemore with12 assists and three digs, Emily Smith with three digs and Haley Goldwater with 10 assists and two digs.

Marindia Turner led Harding with 10 kills. Molly Howard added nine.

The Blossoms will face Harding again next Thursday, November 21 in the first round of the Great American Conference Volleyball Championship Tournament.
