HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team concluded the 2013 season on Thursday night with a three-set loss to Great American Conference regular season champion Harding in the first round of the league's championship tournament. Final game scores were 25-12, 25-15 and 25-20.
The Blossoms (12-20) were limited to a zero or negative hitting percentage in the first two sets to allow the Lady Bisons (26-7) to take a two-set advantage. In the third set, UAM improved to .053, but Harding posted its best set of the match with a .351 percentage to advance into the tournament semi finals on Friday.
The Blossoms posted a pair of three-point scoring runs in the final set, including one at the beginning of the match to take a 4-1 lead. The other run gave UAM a 12-11 advantage in the set.
UAM finished the match hitting -.009 with 20 kills and 21 errors on 113 attempts. Harding finished at .275 with 44 kills and 14 errors on 109 attempts.
Senior Tori Bozzo wrapped up her career by leading UAM with six kills and also adding 10 digs on the back row. Freshman Kedra Johnson added five kills andthree total blocks. Junior Frankie Zaragoza paced the UAM defense with 11 digs. Senior setter Amy Bazemore had 17 assists in her final match.
Marindia Turner led Harding with 13 kills.
