DURANT, Okla. —
The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team suffered a pair of one-run losses Friday on the first day of the Southeastern Regional Invitational, falling 6-5 to Angelo State and 2-1 to Central Missouri.

In the 6-5 loss to Angelo State, the Cotton Blossoms gave up four runs in the top of the first inning and answered in the bottom half of the frame with a pair of runs taking advantage of a pair of ASU fielding errors.

UAM tied the score at 4-all in the bottom of the third on a two-run single from freshman Jennie Johnson before ASU took a 6-4 lead in the top of the fourth.

UAM added its final run in the fourth on an RBI double from senior Maggie Sands to score junior Hannah Pendley, who reached on an error to lead off the inning.

Senior Randa Perry (2-1) took the loss in complete-game fashion, allowing six runs off 10 hits with three strikeouts and three walks. Sandra Serna earned the win for ASU allowing five runs off eight hits six strikeouts and two walks in seven full innings.

In UAM’s second game of the day, a 2-1 loss to Central Missouri, there was only one base runner combined in the final four innings.

UCM scored its only runs in the top of the first on a two-RBI double from Jill Lucas. UAM got its lone run across the plate in the third on an RBI single from junior Beth Johnson to score senior Preslie Long, who singled to lead off the inning.

From that point, only UAM’s Maggie Sands reached base, but was retired on a double play in the bottom of the fifth.

UAM starter Katie Slaughter (1-1) took the loss after allowing two runs off six hits with six strikeouts and only one walk in seven innings. Slaughter retired the final 13 UCM batters. UCM’s Katie Shockley recorded the complete-game win, holding UAM to just one run on three hits with four strikeouts and four walks.

The Cotton Blossoms (4-2) continue play in the Southeastern Regional Invitational on Saturday, February 9 with a 10 a.m. matchup with St. Mary’s and a 4 p.m. contest against Drury.
