SOUTHEASTERN GETS PAST UAM TWICE

GAME 1 BOX SCORE  ///  GAME 2 BOX SCORE

MONTICELLO —
The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team lost both games of Great American Conference double-header on Friday to No. 5 Southeastern Oklahoma State by final scores of 5-2 and 5-4.

UAM senior starting pitcher Randa Perry had perfect game through five innings as the Cotton Blossoms led 2-0 heading into the top of the sixth inning of the first game. Southeastern plated four runs in the sixth inning, three of which were unearned due to a pair of UAM fielding errors. The Savage Storm finalized the scoring with another run in the seventh on a solo homerun from Whitney Hamilton to lead off the inning.

UAM (18-12, 5-3 GAC) started the scoring in the bottom of the second on an RBI infield single from freshman Kali Piha and plated its other run in the fifth on a passed ball.

Perry (7-8) took the loss after allowing five runs (two earned) off four hits with five strikeouts and no walks in a complete-game effort. Jacee Bennett (12-3) earned the win for SE after keeping UAM scoreless on three hits in the final 2.2 innings.

In game two, Southeastern (23-6, 8-2 GAC) started the scoring in the third inning on a two-run homerun from Lacie Cook, and rallied for three runs in the fifth with two outs, highlighted by a two-run doubled from Darrian Williams.

UAM went to the long ball for its four runs over the final three innings – a solo shot from Summer Huddleston to lead off the fifth, a solo shot from Beth Johnson to lead off the sixth and a two-run blast from Sara Matthews in the seventh.

Sophomore Katie Slaughter (9-3) took the loss after allowing five runs off eight hits with two strikeouts and no walks in the first 4.2 inning. SE’s Jacee Bennett (13-3) earned her second victory of the day after allowing two runs off seven hits with four strikeouts and no walks in 5.1 innings of work.

Senior Maggie Sands went 2-for-4 in each of Friday’s game to extend her streak of reaching base safely in all 30 of UAM’s games this season. She also holds the team’s best active hitting streak at seven straight games.

The two squads conclude the four-game GAC series on Saturday with a double-header starting at noon at Blossoms Field.
