BENTONVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team concluded the 2013 season with a 5-1 loss to Ouachita Baptist on Saturday in the loser’s bracket of the Great American Conference Championship Tournament.
Ouachita started the scoring in the top of the fourth inning taking advantage of a pair of UAM fielding errors for a pair of runs.
UAM scored its lone run in the bottom of the fourth on a solo homerun from freshman Kali Piha, before the Lady Tigers finalized the scoring with three runs off four hits in the top half of the fifth inning, highlighted by a two-run double from Bailey Sanders.
Sophomore Katie Slaughter (14-11) suffered the loss after allowing five runs (three earned) off seven hits with three strikeouts and no walks in the first 4.1 innings. Abbi Frakes (14-18) earned the complete-game win for OBU after allowing just one run off eight hits with four strikeouts and no walks.
UAM ends its season with an overall record of 29-25, while OBU improves to 20-32and advances in the GAC Tournament to face either Southern Arkansas or East Central in the next round of the loser’s bracket.
