BETHANY, Oklahoma – The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team was swept by Southern Nazarene on the road Saturday by final game scores of 25-23, 25-18 and 29-27.
With the loss, the Blossoms fall to 13-13 overall and 5-8 in Great American Conference matches, while the Crimson Storm improves to 19-8 and 10-3.
The Blossoms outhit SNU, had more digs and posted more blocks, but it was the Crimson Storm that held the slight advantage on the scoreboard at the end of the match. UAM totaled 39 kills and 18 errors on 121 swings for a .174 percentage. SNU hit .148 with 39 kills and 20 errors on 128 swings. UAM out-dug SNU 62-51 and held a 7-4 advantage in the total blocks.
UAM held a 16-8 lead in the first set before SNU posted a 15-3 run to take a 23-19 lead. The Crimson Storm later won the set on a kill from Emily Dick. After dropping the second set, UAM held a sizeable lead once again in the third frame, leading 15-9 and later holding set point at 24-22 following an attack error from SNU's Emily Dick. SNU responded with three straight points to force extra rallies. After trailing 24-22, the Crimson Storm outscored UAM 7-3 in the final rallies. UAM held the advantage of set point once more during that run on a service ace from senior Jessica Cuba.
SNU's final three points came off of UAM attack errors, two coming by way of SNU blocks.
Cuba and senior Tasha Evans each had eight kills for UAM. Cuba added a team-high 13 digs, while Evans posted four total blocks. Taylor Jacobs led SNU with 11 kills.
The Blossoms are back in action on Tuesday, November 4 against Lyon College for the final home match of the season. First serve is set for 6 p.m. inside Steelman Field House. UAM will honor its volleyball seniors, Jessica Cuba and Tasha Evans, after the match.
