SLOW FIRST HALF DOOMS @UAMHOOPS IN LOSS TO SNU

MONTICELLO –
The University of Arkansas at Monticello men's basketball team rallied to outscore Southern Nazarene 41-33 in the second half, but only 19 first-half points eventually led to a 72-60 loss for the Weevils on Saturday at home.

The Weevils (1-2, 0-2 Great American Conference) did not put points on the scoreboard until the 17:05 mark and then did not score again until the 10:54 mark. Luckily for the Weevils, at the point in the game, Southern Nazarene had only scored 12 for an eight-point lead.

The Crimson Storm (3-0, 2-0 GAC) outscored UAM 25-15 in the final 10 minutes of the first half to take a 20-point lead of 39-19 into the locker room at halftime.

UAM began its run early in the second half, getting to within seven points of the Crimson Storm at the 15:40 mark on a three-pointer from senior Sharif Hudson. It was Hudson's third straight made three-pointer on three straight offensive drives. At that point, the Weevils had started the second half on a 16-2 run. UAM later got as close to as six points on a pair of made free throws by junior Richard Benedyth at the 12:18 mark.

SNU held a double-digit lead for the final 10 minutes of the game.

The Weevils finished the game shooting 41 percent from the field (22-for-54), 29 percent on three-pointers (6-for-21) and 63 percent on foul shots (10-for-16). SNU finished even at 50 percent from the field (26-for-52), 28 percent on three-pointers (5-for-18) and 75 percent at the line (15-for-20).

Hudson led UAM with 18 points and seven rebounds. Junior Jamal Peterson followed with 14 points. SNU's LB Willis led all scorers with 19 points, while teammate C.J. Rodriguez trailed closely at 18. Willis led both teams with 10 rebounds.

The Weevils are back in action on Tuesday in St. Louis, Missouri against Maryville. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
