PENSACOLA, Florida – The University of Arkansas at Monticello women's basketball team turned the ball over 33 times leading to a 64-49 loss to West Florida on Friday in the UWF Thanksgiving Invitational.
The Blossoms (2-3) trailed early in the first half but as much as eight points at the 15:46 mark, but an 11-2 run over the next eight minutes put UAM up by one on a three-pointer from junior Nikki Mullen with 7:38 remaining in the opening period.
However, that turned out to be UAM's only lead of the contest, as the Lady Argonauts (3-0) took a four-point lead of 26-22 into the locker room at halftime and grew their lead to double-digits at the 13:12 mark of the second half.
The Blossoms shot 36 percent from the field for the game (16-for-45), 35 percent on three-pointers (6-for-17) and 58 percent on foul shots (11-for-19). UWF finished the game at 41 percent from the field (25-for-61) and 82 percent on foul shots (14-for-17). The Lady Argos were 0-for-5 on three-pointers.
Mullen led the Blossoms with 16 points on a 5-for-9 shooting performance. Senior Brandae Carroll followed with nine points and 11 rebounds.
West Florida's Toni Brewer led all scorers with 25 points. Kelly Preston added 15.
The Blossoms wrap up their trip to the Florida panhandle on Saturday at the UWF Invitational against USC-Aiken. Tipoff is at noon. USC-Aiken lost to 20th-ranked Central Missouri on Friday by a score of 89-64.
