BENTONVILLE, Ark. –
The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team recorded its third straight double-digit hit performance with 15 hits in Saturday's 10-5 win over Upper Iowa at the 8-State Classic in Bentonville.

The Blossoms (5-2) started the scoring early with a two-run homerun from senior Beth Johnson in the bottom of the first, her second round-tripper of the season.

Junior Lacy Blanchard put UAM up 4-0 in the third with a two-run double to plate sophomore Kali Piha and Johnson, who both singled earlier in the inning.

UAM plated two more in the fourth to take a 6-0 lead thanks in part to an Upper Iowa fielding error and later a sacrifice fly from junior Sara Matthews.

The Peacocks (0-4) finally reached the board with three runs in the top of the fifth inning on a two-run triple by Riley Kruel and an RBI double by Jacqueline Flood. UAM answered in the bottom of the inning to take a 7-3 lead on an RBI single from sophomore Sydney Tipton.

Upper Iowa added its final two runs in the top of the sixth on a solo homerun from Adrienne Olson and later an RBI double from Kruel, her third run driven in of the game.

The Blossoms finalized the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the sixth on a wild pitch and back-to-back run-producing singles from senior Brittany Eitel and Blanchard.

Junior Katie Slaughter (3-1) earned the win after allowing five runs off 11 hits with one strikeout and no walks in the first 5.2 innings. Senior Courtney Wilson earned her first save of the season after retiring all four batters she faced to close out the game. Brooke Redmond (0-2) took the loss for UIU after giving up seven runs off 11 hits with one strikeout and five walks in the first five innings.

The Blossoms are back in action at the 8-State Classic on Sunday with an 11:30 a.m. matchup against Fort Hays State followed by a 1:30 p.m. game against Southwest Baptist.
