BLOSSOMS FINISH WEEKEND CLASSIC WITH LOSS TO LINCOLN

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. –
The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team concluded its participation in this weekend's "Hurry Up" Classic with a 4-3 loss to Lincoln on Sunday at Ouachita Baptist's Sully Anderson Field.

The Blossoms (2-2) struck first and scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the second inning on a two-run double from sophomore Kali Piha, who was driven in on an RBI single from senior Beth Johnson in the next at bat.

Lincoln (1-0) quickly answered and tied the game in the top of the third on a three-run homerun by Sara Kircher. The Blue Tigers scored their go ahead run in top of the fifth, taking advantage of a UAM fielding error following a single to right field by Shantae Duren.

Senior Courtney Wilson (1-1) took the loss in complete-game fashion, allowing four runs (three earned) off nine hits with eight strikeouts and four walks. Lincoln hurler Alyssa Ludwig (1-0) also went the distance and picked up the win after allowing three runs off five hits with one strikeout and four walks.

The Blossoms make its annual trip to Bentonville, Ark. next weekend for the largest NCAA Division II softball classic in the country. The 8-State Classic, featuring 29 teams, begins Friday, February 14 at Bentonville's Tiger Athletic Complex and Memorial Park.
