ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Henderson State completed a four-game sweep over the University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team with a pair of wins over the Blossoms on Saturday at Dee White Field in Arkadelphia. Final scores were 5-4 in the first game and 9-3 in the second game.
In the first game, UAM (10-9, 3-5 GAC) jumped out to 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, highlighted by a two-run double from junior Lacy Blanchard. The Lady Reddies (9-10, 5-3 GAC) answered in the bottom half of the second with three unearned runs off a pair of UAM errors.
UAM broke the tie in the top of the seventh on an RBI fielder's choice from senior Brittany Eitel. HSU answered in the bottom of the seventh with two runs, including the game-winner, an RBI single from Ashlyn White.
In the second game, UAM took a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning on RBI singles from junior Sydney Tipton and Eitel. HSU responded with five runs in the bottom of the fourth off three hits and two UAM errors to take a 6-2 lead.
Freshman McKenzie Rice cut the deficit in half with a two-out solo homerun in the top of the fifth before HSU's Ashlyn White finalized the scoring with a three-run homerun in the bottom of the fifth.
The Blossoms are back in Monticello for the first since the season-opening weekend next Saturday and Sunday in a four-game GAC series against Ouachita Baptist at Blossoms Field. Double headers each day start at 1 p.m.
