MONTICELLO –
The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team recorded a pair of Great American Conference victories over Arkansas Tech at home on Friday, winning the first game 7-6 in eight innings before coming from behind in game two for a 5-2 win.

Junior Lacy Blanchard and senior Beth Johnson led the UAM offensive charge with five combined hits each in the double header Blanchard had a two-run double in the third inning of the first game to force a 3-all tie and an RBI single in the fourth inning of game two for UAM's first score of the game. Johnson went 4-for-5 in the first game.

UAM (15-10, 8-6 GAC) scored a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth inning of game one to take a 6-5 lead, but a solo homerun from ATU's Ashley Keen in the top of the seventh, her second round-tripper of the game, sent the contest into extra innings.

Johnson laced a two-out single into left field in the bottom of the eight to score senior Hannah Pendley from second to end the game. Pendley reached on a bunt single earlier in the inning and moved into scoring position on an infield single from freshman McKenzie Rice.

UAM's other scoring in the series opener came off an ATU error in the first inning and a solo homerun from sophomore Kali Piha in the bottom of the fifth.

Senior Courtney Wilson (8-4) earned the win in complete-game fashion, throwing nearly 150 pitches in eight innings of work. She gave up six runs off 12 hits with three strikeouts and four walks. Victoria Huie (3-4) took the complete-game loss, allowing seven runs (four earned) off 14 hits.

The Blossoms came from behind in the second game to post four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to secure the double-header sweep. UAM started the rally with on a two-run single from freshman Korie Parker before taking advantage of back-to-back ATU fielding errors for the final two runs.

Junior Katie Slaughter (7-5) earned the complete-game win after allowing just two runs off eight hits with four strikeouts and no walks in her seven innings of work. Sydnee Clark (2-4) took the loss for ATU (7-11, 2-8 GAC) after giving up five runs (two earned) off six hits with two strikeouts in a complete-game effort.

SCHEDULE CHANGE: With the forecasted precipitation, Saturday's double-header has been moved up two hours to start at 11 a.m. at Blossoms Field.
