MONTICELLO –
The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team captured its second Great American Conference series victory by splitting a pair of run-rule games with Ouachita Baptist at home on Sunday, falling in the first game 10-1 in six innings before posting a 13-1 five-inning victory in the series finale.

After being held to five hits combined in Saturday's double-header, the Lady Tigers (8-14, 3-8 GAC) exploded for 14 hits in Sunday's first game, including three multi-run homeruns. OBU scored two in the first, two in the third and six in the sixth to shorten the contest.

UAM (13-10, 6-6 GAC) scored its lone run in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI single from junior Sydney Tipton. The Blossoms had eight hits in the first game, the only multi-hit performance coming from sophomore Kali Piha with a 2-for-3 outing. Junior Katie Slaughter (6-5) took the loss after giving up four runs off eight hits in the first 3.1 innings.

The Blossoms responded from that lop-sided loss with 13 hits in the second game, including six for extra base hits. UAM scored one unearned run in the first inning before pushing seven across the plate in the second and another five in the third.

Piha continued her offensive show with a 2-for-4 outing in the second game, including a pair of doubles. Four other Blossoms posted multi-hit performance. Freshman McKenzie Rice went 2-for-4, senior Beth Johnson went 2-for-2, junior Lacy Blanchard went 2-for-3 and freshman Korie Parker went 2-for-3. Senior Brittany Eitel finalized the scoring with a two-run homerun in the third, her third round-tripper of the season.

Senior Courtney Wilson (7-4) earned the win in complete-game fashion, allowing just one run off five hits with three strikeouts and one walk in seven innings of work.

The Blossoms are back in action next weekend at home in a four-game GAC series against Arkansas Tech. The series starts on Friday, March 14 with a double-header at 1 p.m. at Blossoms Field.
