MONTICELLO –
Junior Katie Slaughter picked up her second shutout of the series and senior Hannah Pendley went 7-for-8 combined for the University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team in a double header split with Southern Nazarene at home on Saturday. SNU won the first game 6-2 followed by a 4-0 win for UAM in the series finale.

In the second game victory for UAM, Slaughter (14-10) went the distance for her second shutout in as many days and fourth overall to earn the win, keeping SNU (17-26, 11-19 GAC) off the board on six hits with two strikeouts and one walk.

The Blossoms (25-23, 16-19 GAC) opened their scoring on an RBI double from junior Lacy Blanchard in the bottom of the first, added two more in the second on a two-run homerun by senior Channing Tharpe and finalized the scoring with one run off an SNU error in the bottom of the fifth.

Pendley went 3-for-4 in the second game following a perfect 4-for-4 outing in the first half of the double header. She was responsible for one of UAM's runs in the first game, collecting an RBI single in the bottom of the second inning. UAM scored one more in the second inning for its final run of the game.

The Blossoms struggled with SNU starter Kayla Wyatt in the first game for the second straight day. Wyatt (11-9) went the distance for the Storm, giving up two runs (one earned) off six hits with nine strikeouts and two walks in seven innings of work.

Senior Courtney Wilson (10-10) took the loss after giving up six runs off 10 hits with four strikeouts in the first 4.1 innings.

The Blossoms are set for their final road trip of the 2014 regular season this Tuesday, April 15 to face off against Delta State. First pitch of the non-conference double header is set for 1 p.m. in Cleveland, Miss.
