MONTICELLO – The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team was held to one run in each of its losses to Northwestern Oklahoma State on Friday at home. The Rangers took game one 3-1 and swept the double header with an 11-1 six-inning win in the nightcap.
UAM (26-26, 16-21 Great American Conference) outhit the Rangers (37-15, 25-11 GAC) 6-5 in the first game, but was only able to create one run on an RBI single from junior Lacy Blanchard in the bottom of the second inning.
Northwestern plated one run in each of the second, fourth and fifth innings, including a solo homerun by Megan Sanders in the second.
Senior Courtney Wilson (11-12) took the loss after giving up three runs off five hits in a complete-game effort. Shelby Anderson (19-7) earned the complete-game win with one run allowed off six hits.
In the second game, UAM's lone run came on a solo homerun by junior Sydney Tipton in the bottom of the fourth. Tipton finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate, accounting for nearly half of UAM's five total hits in the loss.
The Rangers used a pair of three-run homeruns to account for most of their scoring. Tyler Casada hit a three-run shot to left field in the first, and Shelby Anderson highlighted NWOSU's seven-run sixth inning with a three-run blast to left center.
The two squads are set to conclude the series with a double header on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. at Blossoms Field. UAM will honor its five seniors at a special ceremony starting at 10:30 a.m.
