Box Score Box Score (HTML)SAN ANGELO, Texas – The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team let a two-set lead slip away as Tarleton State came from behind to win three straight sets and defeat the Cotton Blossoms 3-2 on Saturday in the final match of the Angelo State Kathleen Brasfield Invitational.
The Blossoms (1-3) started the match winning the first set 25-21 and taking a two-set lead with a 25-17 win the second set following the team's best hitting performance of the match. UAM hit .211 with 11 kills and only three errors in the second set.
With its back to the wall, Tarleton State (3-1) resonded with three straight wins, 25-21, 25-10 and 15-11. After posting negative percentage numbers in two of the first three sets, the Texanns hit .250 in the fourth set and .333 in the fifth and deciding set. TSU had 10 kills and only two errors in the final frame.
Junior Sydni Schulz recorded UAM's first double-digit kill performance of the 2014 season with 12 kills in the loss to Tarleton State. She also recorded UAM's first 20-dig performance in the loss with 24 for her first double-double of the year.
Senior Tasha Evans and Jessica Cuba each added nine kills each. Cuba was second on the team with 18 digs in the loss. Junior Kaila Kikugawa recorded her third straight double-double with a career-high 37 assists and 16 digs.
Tarleton's Katie Covell led all players with 16 kills on 40 swings with only two errors in her team's victory.
The Blossoms play at home for the first time of the season on Tuesday against Harding for the first Great American Conference match as well. First serve is set for 6 p.m. inside Steelman Field House.
